WELCOME TO MY NEW "NFT LEGAL UPDATE" NEWSLETTER
The First Newsletter Exclusively Focused on Giving Regular Updates & Critical Insights on the Key Legal Issues, Litigation & Trends in the World of NFTs
My first “NFT Legal Update” newsletter comes out soon - featuring my webinar recorded just a few days ago in which I lay out the latest key NFT-related legal and business issues and litigation (and my concrete advice about how best to plan and execute your own NFT projects and avoid the pitfalls and risks of others). I also lay out how best, most efficiently and cost-effectively to roll out your NFTs internationally - in a world of 200+ territories, each of which has its own legal and securities frameworks. So consider this “welcome” newsletter a preview of what’s to come. My mission is to help you succeed in your NFT goals - and help you find solutions to your NFT questions (not just identify problems). I believe I can give you critical information and insights about the fast-evolving and highly complex NFT legal landscape that you won’t find anywhere else in one place (in other words, real news you can use). [Many of you already subscribe to my separate, more general media, entertainment and tech “Fearless Media” newsletter via Twitter Revue (you can check that out here). Feel free to unsubscribe to my new NFT-focused newsletter if it is not of interest.]
Here’s some relevant information about me. I work as a lawyer and business partner with leading entrepreneurs, innovators, companies and venture capitalists in the world of Web3 and NFTs - in other words, effectively as a General Counsel for them. I am also an entrepreneur and true believer in the long-term NFT mass market opportunity and unique value that NFTs can bring to both creators and their fans/audience/buyers. In fact, well before we used the terms “Web3” and “NFTs,” 8+ years ago, I wrote an article in Billboard magazine where I extolled the virtues of direct creator/fan connection - what I called a new kind of “community-based business model.”
But the NFT world and overall opportunity are still in their very early innings, so the legal “rules of the game” are just being established. Virtually everything is grey - very little black and white. And that means there is much risk for both those who create and sell NFTs - and for those who invest in and buy them. My goal is to use my rather unique and broad legal and business experience to help guide you throughout this evolution so as to minimize your risks and maximize your opportunities.
I’ve been in the worlds of entertainment, media and tech for 30 years - and have worn just about every hat.
On the legal side, I am a graduate of Harvard Law and practiced entertainment and intellectual property law for several years in major firms. I then became a legal affairs executive at Universal Studios and New Line Cinema, after which I transitioned to business affairs roles. Next, I served as General Counsel for a multi-billion dollar operating division of Universal Studios before I left to become a serial entrepreneur. I am a licensed member of the California bar and Chairman of Creative Media, a legal services and business advisory firm focused on media, entertainment and tech (including Web3 and NFTs of course).
On the business side, after my GC role at Universal Studios, I became a serial entrepreneur and served as CEO and President of several pioneering media-tech companies that successfully exited (much to the pleasure of investors). In those roles, I always oversaw all legal and corporate development and strategic deal-related matters. And I negotiated deals of virtually every kind valued in excess of $3 billion (M&A, international joint ventures, IP licensing, strategic partnerships, sponsorships, etc.). I also raised tens of millions of dollars of venture capital financing and worked with - and continue to work with (and advise) - leading entrepreneurs and innovators in the worlds of entertainment, media and tech (including in our nascent world of Web3 and NFTs).
I also work closely with the creators - artists, musicians, etc. - who fuel the world of Web3, media, entertainment and tech in the first place. And, due to my passion for all of it, I regularly write about these worlds - and where they’re going - for major publications that include Forbes, Variety, TechCrunch, USA Today, Billboard, SPIN, TheWrap and several others. I also host my own “Fearless Media” podcast in which I interview leading figures in these worlds (with over 12 episodes directly related to Web3 and NFTs).
My goal is to add real unique value for you - so that you can help to positively drive the fast-evolving world of NFTs forward to achieve its true massive potential for everyone in the eco-system (including yourself of course). I hope you enjoy it.
Never hesitate to reach out to me directly at peter@creativemedia.biz to discuss your own NFT/Web3 projects, goals, opportunities and explore how my firm and I can help you achieve them. Or reach out simply to send me your comments (and NFT legal updates of your own for inclusion in future newsletters). Enjoy!
